Train like an urban warrior
A very delicate mix of soft power and speed, topped off with precision. This is how we perceive Yoshiki’s specific presentation of Systema. With snappy movements and a firm emphasis on practicality, Yoshiki’s style might appear to be a purely combat-focused expression of our style – but to believe it ends there would be a mistake. His capture of Systema is a lot deeper than that and his classes carries with it a simplicity that can also be summarized as elegant.
This seminar is an opportunity for all participants to have an ongoing conversation with Yoshiki on what it means to be a warrior in an urban setting. Together we will discover how we as Systema practitioners can carry a heavy peace with the possibility of conflict. Expect many foundational drills and lots of chances to feel how deep the basics can go if only calibrated in the right direction.
The sessions by nature of the classes are approachable by practitioners of all levels and styles. We welcome anyone new to Systema to the seminar to participate fully.
Yoshiki Kuraoka
Yoshiki Kuraoka is one of the few instructors around the world whose full time job is to help Systema practitioners get better. Born in Japan, Yoshiki travelled out to Seattle to train with Kwan Lee – a senior instructor most known for his combative and tactical prowess. Since moving back to Japan, he set up Systema Academy and has been doing workshops and regular classes around Japan. Yoshiki is a very jovial and sincere instructor and we are happy to count him a friend of ours.
15 hours of training
Whether you are new to Systema or just giving it a try for the first time, the special class and seminar provides a good amount of time for you to soak into the lessons. With a friendly community and open learning format, you will be sure to take back a huge amount of learning through the course of the weekend.
Suitable for everyone
The seminar is suitable for people of all levels, but we do make the recommendation for those completely new to any art form of practice to attend all the special classes aside from the seminar as the special classes help to provide a fundamental skillset from which to understand the seminar topics and how to apply them to your art.
Seminar etiquette
Our seminars are held in a friendly manner – if you have a question or request, don’t be afraid to ask your training partner or the instructors for help and we will do what we can to help. All we ask is that you help to maintain a respectful environment for the other attendees and a culture of helping each other to learn.
Please dress in comfortable and modest clothing that you do not mind getting ruined – it could happen! We also recommend bringing a change of clothes.
During the seminar days, the break might not be long enough to head out to buy food or drinks. We recommend bringing some drinks and snacks sufficient to keep your energy levels up. Eating extremely large meals is not recommended.
