Under Pressure: Maintaining Calmness on the Ground

This series is a special course by Jamie Lippiatt, a senior instructor at Systema Headquarters Toronto. The following write up is from Jamie:

The focus of the series will be on two separate elements that tend to be weak spots in many martial arts practitioners. 1) Fighting on the ground and 2) finding deep calmness under pressure.

While grappling and ground fighting has become more and more popular in the martial arts community since the UFC, the depth of the aspects of self defence, locks and striking are still not well understood, at least not in the way the ancient Russian masters used it.

The second focus will be on using martial arts and conflict to find and cultivate a deep state of peace and calmness within all levels of one’s being. To find how to begin to release deep traumas through martial arts training as well as find a deep state of inner peace. Leading to much happier lives and deeper internal skills and training.
A common issue with many practitioners is that the state of calmness cannot be maintained under serious stress and the ability to truly relax into power has not been understood and developed. This and ground fighting tactics will be the focus of this series.
