What does it mean to train for reality?
Join us for three days of intensive Systema training with Martin Wheeler. Focusing on ground fighting, grappling, and the ability to stand up or go to the ground while still defending or attacking. Martin will show how to increasing sensitivity, use the attackers tactics against them, sharpen your awareness, anticipate movements, and respond with devastating power.
The sessions by nature of the classes are approachable by practitioners of all levels and styles. We welcome anyone new to Systema to the seminar to participate fully.
Martin Wheeler
Martin Wheeler is an extremely accomplished martial artist. With more than 35 years of martial arts training, Martin has reached 4th Degree in Kempo Karate and black belt in Judo before finally becoming amongst the most sought after instructors in Systema. He currently teaches as the head instructor of Systema at The Academy Beverly Hills and among his students include martial art legends such as Dan Inosanto and Guro Marc of Denny Dog Brothers Martial Arts. Martin is also a contract instructor to the US Navy SEALs, Special Operation Units, DEA, SWAT, and various law enforcement agencies.
In addition to his martial arts prowess, Martin has also worked as a stuntman, script writer and was featured in the movie The Double (2011).
Takahide Kitagawa
Takahide is the head instructor of Systema Tokyo and runs one of the largest Systema schools in Japan. Since 2006, Taka has traveled annually to both the Moscow and Toronto headquarters (except during the pandemic period) to study Systema under founders Mikhail Ryabko and Vladimir Vasiliev. To validate Systema’s effectiveness in competitive combat sports, he began training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and he has demonstrated this with 2 gold medals within the last 2 years in the ASJJF ASIA JIU-JITSU CUP 2025 and the ALL JAPAN NO-GI OPEN TOURNAMENT 2024, both in the Brown Belt Master4 Featherweight category.
Taka also has a very wide audience through his YouTube Channel where he engages frequently with other renowned martial artists such as Shirakawa Ryuji (Aikido), Katsunori Kikuno (MMA), Togo Ishii Sensei (Jeet Kun Do) and many others. On top of that, he has also starred in a number of martial arts films such as TATSUJIN WARRIORS英雄傳 (2025) and Murakumo: Ghost Agency (2023).
18 hours of training
Whether you are new to Systema or just giving it a try for the first time, the special class and seminar provides a good amount of time for you to soak into the lessons. With a friendly community and open learning format, you will be sure to take back a huge amount of learning through the course of the weekend.
Suitable for everyone
The seminar is suitable for people of all levels, but we do make the recommendation for those completely new to any art form of practice to attend all the special classes aside from the seminar as the special classes help to provide a fundamental skillset from which to understand the seminar topics and how to apply them to your art.
Seminar etiquette
Our seminars are held in a friendly manner – if you have a question or request, don’t be afraid to ask your training partner or the instructors for help and we will do what we can to help. All we ask is that you help to maintain a respectful environment for the other attendees and a culture of helping each other to learn.
Please dress in comfortable and modest clothing that you do not mind getting ruined – it could happen! We also recommend bringing a change of clothes.
During the seminar days, the break might not be long enough to head out to buy food or drinks. We recommend bringing some drinks and snacks sufficient to keep your energy levels up. Eating extremely large meals is not recommended.
